After the presser, we had the chance to go hands-on with Casio’s high-bursting EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 compacts here at CES. The EX-FS10 (pictured above) was particularly impressive considering its small size and 30fps burst mode capability (and 1000fps movie mode for slow motion playback) that puts DSLRs to shame.

Lenovo has announced today that its dapper young netbook will be getting an upgrade, starting with a modest boost in screen size — from 10-inches to 10.2-inches. In addition to this embarrassment of riches, the new IdeaPad S10 netbook will pack LenovoSocial, a suite for “social networking enthusiasts,” VeriFace facial recognition tech and a multi-touch trackpad.

D+Caf Detects If You’re Drinking Real Coffee Instead of Decaf [Coffee]

decafthumb D+Caf Detects If Youre Drinking Real Coffee Instead of Decaf [Coffee]I don’t understand drinking decaf coffee. It’s like non-alcoholic beer. Both are crappy, neutered versions of the original. But if you’ve absolutely got to drink decaf, D+caf will make sure it’s the real (fake) deal.

D+caf test strips are simply little strips of paper coated with antibodies that tell if you a beverage is properly decaffeinated, turning up blue lines if it’s got more than 20mg of caffeine per 6oz serving.

While we may not know exactly what item we’re looking at in the photo above, we do know that we like it. This hot peripheral showed up on Lenovo’s photostream without any explanation, and from the image it seems pretty much like a keyboard-lover’s dream; it looks to be wireless, psychotically thin, and boasts an integrated trackpad and numpad.

From the looks of it, there’s a fierce storm brewing (see photo), and it’s probably due to our excitement at the prospects of this rather unsettling MP3 doll for children. There’s a real paucity of information about the fire-haired pair, but their names appear to me Man-Man and Niu Niu.

It usually takes a lot to get us stoked on a digiframe — after all, there are so many, and they all pretty much do the exact same thing. That said, the new ImpactV from eStarling doesn’t seem so shabby. Of course, we’ve seen some of these features on prior models (such as an 8-inch display, WiFi, the ability to email pictures to the frame, photo scheduling, and RSS feeds), but DVD quality video playback (up to 4 minutes), a custom iPhone app, Photobucket and YouTube search, and Facebook support are all very interesting.

5 Ways To Get Your Images Noticed In Flickr

Posted: November 16th, 2008 | Author: caden | Filed under: Internet | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

439ef_flickr-logo 5 Ways To Get Your Images Noticed In FlickrFlickr contains over three billion photos. let’s face it. Some of them are better than yours, and mine. But despite that, there are things you can do to be noticed.

Tagging

TagsEverything on the web is about context, and Flickr is no exception. If you provide tags for your photos then people can gather more information about the photograph, search on the tags, and find your image when they need one that meets specific requirements.

You can tag images for your own purposes, but if you want other folk to find them, try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes, and use tags that people might use in a search.

More tags are generally better, within reason.

Host Your Own Lifestream with Sweetcron

Posted: November 16th, 2008 | Author: caden | Filed under: Internet | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

sweetcron logoThese days just about everyone around the internet knows about lifestreaming and may even have one of their own.  This is due to the great growth and expansion of services like FriendFeed and Socialthing!

Previously, MakeUseOf covered the top 5 lifestreaming services.  One thing about most lifestreaming services is that they can’t be self-hosted.  You might be able to put a little widget in your sidebar or post it on your MySpace page, but there isn’t really a custom solution for you to host your own lifestream.

Sweetcron is the solution for all the people out there that want to host their own lifestream.  It is currently in beta, but it does offer some great options for someone that wants to host their own lifestream.

What is Lifestreaming?

Lifestreaming is a way to get all of your online activities into one place.  Most people these days are in several social network sites that range from bookmarking to photo sharing.  It becomes difficult to keep up with all of the things your friends are doing all over the internet.  Lifestreaming puts all of their activities into one place, so you can do a better job of interacting with your friends across social networks.

Sweetcron is definitely for the more advanced user, or someone that is open to a little time and frustration.
