Macmillan Scales Back BEA Presence

Amid staff cutbacks at Macmillan, the publisher has announced that it will be foregoing a booth at the next BookExpo America and instead will set up shop in a room. The downgrade from booth to room is part of an ongoing effort to cut costs according to a memo issued today from Macmillan head John Sargent.

Action Masters Putnam editor-in-chief Neil Nyren has acquired a new novel by Frederick Forsyth, tentatively titled The Cobra, in a North American rights deal with Ed Victor. Forsyth’s 13th novel, The Afghan, was published by Putnam in 2006; they expect to bring out the new one late in 2010.

MONDAY, Nov. 17, 2008 (Health.com) — Regular physical activity may lower a woman’s overall risk of cancer, suggests a new government study—but only if her workouts don’t cut into a good night’s sleep. Otherwise, lack of shut-eye appears to cancel out much of exercise’s protective benefits.
