Microsoft, EMC partner on data-loss prevention

Microsoft  said it plans to integrate RSA data-loss prevention technology into its products to enable security managers to monitor sensitive data and block unauthorized use. RSA is EMC's security division.

While calling the partnership "significant," Microsoft's JG Chirapurath didn't disclose much detail, except to say that Exchange and SharePoint are expected to be among the first Microsoft products to include this DLP capability.

Mozilla to pull anti-phishing feature from Firefox 2.0

Mozilla will drop anti-phishing protection from the final version of Firefox 2.0 at Google 's request when Mozilla updates the browser later this month, a company executive confirmed Thursday.

When Mozilla rolls out Firefox 2.0.0.19, the browser will be missing the anti-phishing feature that the aging browser has sported since it debuted in 2006, said Mike Beltzner , director of Firefox, in an e-mail Thursday.

"The latest published update for Firefox 2, which is version 2.0.0.18, has the Phishing Protection feature enabled and working," Beltzner said.

License server glitch exposes SonicWall users to threats

A technical problem in a license management server at SonicWall created havoc Tuesday for users of the company's e-mail security products, leaving many customers temporarily unprotected against spam, phishing and malware threats while others were unable to log into their own systems.

 License server glitch exposes SonicWall users to threats

Colleen Nichols, a spokeswoman for SonicWall , said Tuesday evening that the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based vendor had resolved the server issue as of noontime PST and that affected customers could "resynchronize their licenses" by visiting the customer support section of the company's Web site.
