Gay Marriage…again?!

Quarantine (Auschwitz-Birkenau)The idiots who voted to ban gay marriage in California have set this country back to the days when women and blacks couldn’t vote, when “Irish Need Not Apply,” when “No Jews at This Country Club!”  They ought to be ashamed of themselves, but even more importantly, we all should be scared out of our minds.

What kind of a country are we living in, anyway?  You know, I used to shake may head in disagreement when people would say that the Holocaust could happen again.  No way, I’d thought.  Now…I’m not so sure.  Now, I’m convinced that we, as a society, are bovine anti-intellectuals whose biggest concern is  who’s going to win on American Idol.

Bailout - give it to the peeps!

Instead of funneling all these billions of dollars into these huge corporations, we should instead give it to the people of the US2889304477_89611ec4d7_m Bailout - give it to the peeps!
and let us run our own country!  I’m so sick and tired of hearing about how we need to give billions to this or that conglomerate while watching people lose their jobs and endure sleepless nights.

Xenophobia, Fear or Purely Racist Actions

Citing “exhaustive research done on the Internet last night”, Mbeki explained that the word ‘xenophobia’ was wildly inaccurate and was leading to a misdiagnosis of the current violence.“We need to be less eager to believe in this thing called xenophobia,” he said. “Arachnophobia, yes. Spiders are horrible. But what is a xeno? There is no such thing.”However he added that the word was most commonly used in an African context.“This makes me wonder whether in fact ‘xeno’ isn’t perhaps some sort of racist codeword for an African,” he said. “I ask you. Just because there is an X in front of a word, does that make it automatically African?”Mbeki was also quick to reassure the international community, specifically world football governing body FIFA.“I want to tell all those players, administrators and fans who are coming here in 2010, please do not worry.“By all accounts the violence is being fuelled by criminal elements, and by the belief that foreigners are stealing our jobs and our women.”He said that as long as international visitors stayed away from criminals and did not ask out local girls or set up discount spaza shops in townships, they were “unlikely to be set on fire”. Thank you very, very much. Well, this isn’t exactly the party I’d planned, but I sure like the company.

And I want to start today by saying how grateful I am to all of you, to everyone who poured your hearts and your hopes into this campaign, who drove for miles and lined the streets waving homemade signs, who scrimped and saved to raise money, who knocked on doors and made calls, who talked, sometimes argued with your friends and neighbors … who e-mailed and contributed online, who invested so much in our common enterprise, to the moms and dads who came to our events, who lifted their little girls and little boys on their shoulders and whispered in their ears, “See, you can be anything you want to be.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton ended her historic campaign for the presidency on Saturday and told supporters to unite behind rival Barack Obama, closing out a race that was as grueling as it was groundbreaking.

The former first lady, who as recently as Tuesday declared herself the strongest candidate, gave Obama an unqualified endorsement and pivoted from her role as determined foe to absolute ally.

“The way to continue our fight now to accomplish the goals for which we stand is to take our energy, our passion, our energy and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama, the next president of the United States,” she said.

Hillary Shoulda….

By all rights and reason, Hillary should have won this election. While Obama is the flavor-of-the month, I don’t find him to be the least bit substanitive. Hillary, on the other hand, has - no, had - both the political savvy and cache to sit as the first woman president. Why didn’t she win? Here’s why:

Did Harvey Weinstein Arm-Twist Nancy Pelosi into Accepting His Florida and Michigan Re-Vote Funding Proposal?

Posted: June 3rd, 2008 | Author: caden | Filed under: Politics | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Hillary Clinton backer Harvey Weinstein has allegedly, though he denies it, pressured House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to accept his plan to bankroll re-voting in Michigan and Florida. According to the CNN.com article by Ed Henry “Sources: Clinton supporter pressures Pelosi”, sources said that Harvey Weinstein threatened Nancy Pelosi in late April to not bankroll Democratic congresspeople running for election if his Florida and Michigan re-vote plan wasn’t accepted by the House Speaker. But Harvey Weinstein said in a denial that the conversation with Nancy Pelosi stressed a funding plan for re-voting in Michigan and Florida without any arm-twisting. Hillary Clinton does want the re-voting in those two states to go forward, as she’s currently trailing Barack Obama in delegates.

Even before the May 6 primaries in North Carolina and Indiana, there were some ominous signs for John McCain. In the days before the election, Keith Clock, a Democratic Party chairman in Indiana, had already noticed an increase in calls from Republicans. They wanted to know how to vote for Democratic presidential candidates, while still opting to choose Republicans for local positions in the state, according to the Indianapolis Star.
