Gay Marriage…again?!

The idiots who voted to ban gay marriage in California have set this country back to the days when women and blacks couldn’t vote, when “Irish Need Not Apply,” when “No Jews at This Country Club!” They ought to be ashamed of themselves, but even more importantly, we all should be scared out of our minds.
What kind of a country are we living in, anyway? You know, I used to shake may head in disagreement when people would say that the Holocaust could happen again. No way, I’d thought. Now…I’m not so sure. Now, I’m convinced that we, as a society, are bovine anti-intellectuals whose biggest concern is who’s going to win on American Idol.
The argument against gay marriage comes down to one of two things, both of which are inseparable: religion and Nature.
Religion
I have never seen religion uplift the down-and-out, the suppressed, the repressed, the ostracized. No, religion just kills those people…in the name of God! At best, it’s pathetic manipulation; while at worst, it
continues to hold certain people down…oh wait…that’s what it still does! Religion is a bunch of bull.
Nature
Hey, if you can really say that homosexuality is not “natural,” then you must know the secrets to the universe - which, of course, you don’t. There are strange phenomena that occurs on our planet everyday about which we have no explanation because it defies what we currently know to be “true,” identifiable, or able to be codified. The Pope refused to look into the telescope; Einstein’s General and Special Relativity was panned; String Theory is something most people have never heard about let alone understand. Listen, we still don’t know how the flower grows; we don’t know why the heart keeps on pumping; we don’t understand how birds know when (and where) to fly south; we don’t know what the sun is or why it rises and sets; we don’t know what the ocean is, what its tides are or how it keeps rejuvenating itself. We don’t know why clouds hang in the air. We don’t know why we have different seasons. We don’t understand the languages of other species (and, for many idiots, our own!). We don’t understand why the bee stings, the grasshopper hops, and the butterflies fly. We don’t know anything about what is and what is not “Natural!”
And for those of you who answered those questions, you’re exactly the problem. I say this because you’re not really answering the questions at all: you’re simply articulating what you have observed (on the part of the scientist) or what you have heard (on the part of the student/lay person). But we do not have the answers to these questions…not even close!
So hey, Californians…FUCK YOU! You’re horrible people over there, and I’m just glad that I’m here in Massachusetts where things are, at least, real.
