Gay marriage: equal rights? Absolutely!

It’s funny how history has a way of repeating itself. Not too long ago, we Americans were disgusted by the idea of interracial marriage. It’s just not right! But even before that, we Americans were delighted to hold slaves. And we had everyone from Congress to KKK attempt to keep our country “pure and true.” It takes only a few moments on Wikipedia to learn all about America’s cruelty and, perhaps more importantly, the dark side of our human condition.

Today, we have yet another group of people against which the “War of Purity” is being waged: the gay folk. Let’s get the first argument out of the way: Yes, you’re born gay. This is not only a scientific fact but one that can be proved by quite easily by look at its binary opposite: Yes, you’re born straight.

The second argument against homosexuality is one of Nature. I always laugh at this one because it’s so utterly presumptuous, so blatently arrogant. In an nutshell, if we had any capacity to divine what is Nature, we would - quite seriously - have unlocked the secrets of the universe. We still have no idea about the fundementals of life: what it is, why it is, where it is, how it is. We haven’t a clue how, say, our flowers grow, our wind blows, our rain rains. Oh sure, we can observe…although, sadly, we oftentimes manipulate that which we observe, too, in order to make it fit into our ego’s flavor of the month. So to say that we understand nature - ergo, that which is Natural from that which is Not Natural - is just another belief constructed by the human mind for the pleasure of its ego.

Attached to this argument has got to be the one I find most absurd of all: Two men cannot procreate; therefore, homsexuality is not natural. Ladies and gentlemen, love and even sex has absolutely nothing to do with procreation. Imagine, if you will, that the entire world went gay…! Do you really think for one minute that our species would go extinct? Come on! Are we really that stupid?

And, of course, I saved the best for last: It’s against God. Those who hold this belief are utterly unreachable. And it is exactly these people who got us into the whole mess in the first place, for it is my firm belief that organized religion is the work of the devil! That’s right! You heard it here! The devil, I tell you! Let me tell you a quick story…

Once upon a time, there was a benvolent ruler. He (yes, He) would walk amongst his people every day, and they would shower him with love and adderation, willingly giving up a portion of their weekly earnings to him, willingly building his cities, willingly keeping him in single-malt scotch and Cuban cigars. One day, this dude named Josh came strolling into town and started pointing out how unfair this ruler was. He used his own ideology to point out the fact that each and every person must be the ruler of his own mind, body, and soul and not some dictator. Well, when the ruler caught wind of this, he demonized our buddy Josh…but he also knew that Josh’s rap was beginning to take seed no matter how many of his people he arrested and tortured. So, as any good ruler would do, he spent several months studying the beliefs of this Josh. There he was - day and night - studying, studying, studying. And writing! Or, re-writing! Soon, our ruler had entire book of that - how shocking! how wonderful! - coalesced with Josh’s own ideology. With some exceptions, of course. But they were minor: change the godhead into a wrathful God; create stories that show what happens to those who go against God’s rule; etc. etc. etc. Rather quickly, our benovelont ruler’s popularity soared. He was magnificent! He was divine! And what of our good friend, Josh? He’s got to go…because while our ruler has remained “faithful” to Josh’s “text,” he actually twisted and changed its fundamental core in order to once more hold supreme power over his people. Mothers would kill their own children if they “went against the word of God.” Our leader knew that once he transformed this argument into a belief system, generation after generation would not only teach his cannon, they would worship it. I think you can finish the rest….

You see my point? There’s nothing of Jesus in Christianity:

  • Jesus was a Jew.
  • The “Last Supper” was, in fact, a Passover Seder.
  • Mary Magdalene was most probably his wife, but most definately his prized pupil.
  • Jesus never preached Christianty. He preached Judaism!
  • Jesus was a Rabbi.

I could go on, but I think you get my point. We’ve all been fooled, folks - well, most of us. The proof: those whose blood is boiling right this very moment.

So the religious argument, the “Nature” argument, and any other argument one comes up with is, in my humble opinion, rubbish! Gay marriage is, without question, a civil rights issue. And if you still don’t believe me check out Loving vs. the Commonwealth of Virginia. That ought to spark some serious questions in your mind. But for those it does not, well, go back to your ruler’s text. And stay there!

Just leave me the hell out of it. ;)
